SHOW US YOUR SOUPERPOWERS!

Be A Souperhero this winter and changes lives one bowl of soup at a time

thrive pr + communications is excited to launch the The Salvation Army’s annual Be A Souperhero week. This year The Salvation Army is sending out the call to compassionate citizens to Be A Souperhero this winter and replace every meal with soup from Saturday 29th July to Friday 4th August, to raise much needed funds for Aussies in need.

Be A Souperhero will strive to raise $100,000 to help struggling Aussie families living on less than $17.00 per day.* Souperheroes will seek the support of family and friends to donate to their challenge and all funds raised will go directly to Salvos community service programs.

Owner of award winning Australian restaurant MoVida and renowned Spanish-Australian chef, Frank Camorra will partake in this year’s challenge. Frank will transform into Souperchef Camzoro – a new souperhero with the power to create delicious soups inspired by his Spanish heritage.

“Thick, rich hearty soup is not difficult or expensive to make. In fact, it is all about relying on simple, staple ingredients brewed together in a single pot. My Spanish Lentil Soup reminds me of my family kitchen and is a delicious example of how a bowl of soup can keep the stomach full and the heart warm.

“I’m honoured to be involved in this year’s challenge. I have created a soup with a Southern European twist to tantalise the tastebuds and inspire Souperheroes across Australia on their weeklong soup journey. My soup is easy to make, nutritious and above all delicious; a soup I grew up eating at home,” Frank said.

The Salvation Army’s spokesperson Brian Hallett, was thrilled to have Frank’s support and encouraged others to follow suit and sign up to Be A Souperhero.

“During winter, it is especially important to think of those members of the community who are experiencing hardship and disadvantage. Every year, thousands of people in the community go without meals, heating and medical treatment. For families experiencing these difficulties, when it comes to mealtimes, soup can be a real hero because it’s inexpensive and quick to make.

“The Be A Souperhero challenge is a chance to make a difference to the lives of people who find it hard to put a meal on the table. We encourage as many people as possible to give it a go and commit to eating soup for a week or taking on a soup challenge. Every donation goes a long way to helping the Salvos provide support to people in need,” Brian said.

Be A Souperhero is open to people of all ages and families with children are encouraged to substitute one meal a day with soup during the week long ‘Ultimate Souperhero Challenge’, or participate in other Souperhero challenges, including hosting a Souperhero Soup-Off or a Souper Lunch.  Participants will set up their own online profile and family and friends can show their support by donating online.
