Thrive was founded in Melbourne in 2000, by Kiwi-born Leilani Abels.
At just twenty-five years of age, with a background in sports marketing and management, Leilani started the agency with a goal to raise the bar with accountability and ROI in the PR industry. Thrive’s foundation clients were LVMH, Melbourne Racing Club, Reece Group and the National Gallery of Victoria. The agency started and ran a celebrity charity gala called Starry Starry Night for The Alannah & Madeline Foundation which led to the agency becoming one of the most recognised in the market. Pitching and winning the Nike account in 2004 was the impetus for Thrive to set up shop in Sydney, which allowed Thrive to attract the best talent and the biggest local and global brands in Australia and New Zealand. Leilani's business and media connections stood her in good stead to extend the agency's B2B, corporate and crisis comms credentials, working with senior executives and other influential stakeholders.
Thrive made an agency acquisition in New Zealand, and opened its first Queensland office in Brisbane in 2016, followed by its Gold Coast office in early 2018. Its Perth office was announced in 2022.
While many others have come and gone in the PR industry since Thrive's inception in 2000, this agency has continued to go from strength to strength over two decades. Now in its twenty-second year, Thrive has intuitively evolved with the industry to offer expert consumer, business, brand and reputation services for its clients. A full-service digital, content and production suite is also what the agency is well known for.
When Leilani started Thrive, she chose the company’s name deliberately for its definition; To grow vigorously, flourish and be successful. “It's what I strive to deliver to my team and Thrive's clients every day,” says Leilani, who today remains Chief Executive Officer for the company.
